Our Story
Jamaican roots.
Maine made.
Hi, I'm Jordene. I grew up in Jamaica, where food wasn't just something you made — it was something you gathered around, passed down, and poured yourself into. Bold spices, slow marinades, the kind of cooking that fills a whole house with something unmistakable. That was home.
When my daughter was diagnosed with severe food allergies at just five months old, everything changed — how we ate, what we bought, how we read every label. It reshaped our entire relationship with food.
Years later, after moving to Maine, I found myself missing the Jamaican staples that made cooking feel like home. When I couldn't find them, I started making my own. And as I researched and developed those recipes, our journey with Camille came rushing back. If I was going to put something into the world, it was going to be as clean and inclusive as possible.

The heart of it all
Made for everyone
at the table.
Her diagnosis didn't just change what we ate — it changed how we thought about food entirely. It made us ask harder questions, read finer print, and think about everyone else at the table who might be doing the same thing.
That experience is woven into everything Backriver Blends makes. Not as a selling point — as a foundation. Maine gave us the space to build it right, surrounded by local farms, artisan makers, and a community that understands why quality matters.
What we believe
Food should bring people
together, not divide them.
Great flavor shouldn't require a compromise. Authentic culture shouldn't be out of reach. And a jar of marinade — the right one — can carry an entire heritage across an ocean and set it down gently at your table.
That's why we do this. And that's what's behind everything we make.
